New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday extended heartfelt greetings to Tibetan spiritual leader His Holiness the Dalai Lama on his 90th birthday, praising him as a timeless symbol of love, compassion, patience, and moral discipline. The Prime Minister also prayed for the revered monk’s continued good health and long life.
Taking to platform X, PM Modi wrote: “I join 1.4 billion Indians in extending our warmest wishes to His Holiness the Dalai Lama on his 90th birthday. He has been an enduring symbol of love, compassion, patience, and moral discipline. His message has inspired respect and admiration across all faiths. We pray for his continued good health and long life.”
The Dalai Lama turned 90 today, and celebrations are underway in McLeodganj, the seat of the Tibetan government-in-exile in Himachal Pradesh. The Tibetan community has organised a week-long series of events, including religious discourses, youth forums, documentary screenings, and special prayer sessions to mark the occasion.
On the eve of his birthday, the Dalai Lama shared a special message with the world, urging people to focus on compassion and inner peace as the true path to happiness and a better society. In a statement issued by the Central Tibetan Administration, the 14th Dalai Lama, Tenzin Gyatso, highlighted the value of altruism and warm-heartedness in today’s turbulent world.
“While material development is important, peace of mind is equally vital. A good heart and compassion toward everyone, not just close ones, will help create a better world,” he said.
He reaffirmed his life’s commitments: “I will continue working to promote human values, religious harmony, and the rich Indian philosophical traditions that explore the mind and emotions. Tibetan culture and heritage, rooted in non-violence and compassion, has much to offer the world.”
