₹36,230 Crore Ganga Expressway Set for Inauguration
Following his Varanasi visit, the Prime Minister is expected to travel to Meerut for the inauguration of the ambitious Ganga Expressway project, one of India’s largest highway corridors.
The 594-km-long expressway has been built at an estimated cost of ₹36,230 crore and is designed as a six-lane greenfield highway, with the provision to expand up to eight lanes in the future. It connects 12 districts, including Meerut, Hapur, Bulandshahr, Amroha, Sambhal, Budaun, Shahjahanpur, Hardoi, Unnao, Raebareli, Pratapgarh, and Prayagraj.
Transforming Connectivity Across Uttar Pradesh
Officials say the expressway is expected to significantly improve travel efficiency and freight movement across western, central, and eastern Uttar Pradesh. It aims to reduce travel time between key urban centres and strengthen economic corridors across the state.
Meerut District Magistrate Vijay Kumar Singh highlighted strong public response to the project, noting that the expressway will drastically improve connectivity between Prayagraj, Lucknow, and other major cities. He added that trial runs have already shown high-quality road standards, with smooth riding experience and world-class infrastructure benchmarks.
