PM Modi, National Leaders Pay Tribute to Dr Babasaheb Ambedkar on 70th Mahaparinirvan Diwas

Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday led the nation in paying homage to Dr Babasaheb Ambedkar on Mahaparinirvan Diwas, marking the 70th anniversary of the passing of the principal architect of the Indian Constitution. The solemn ceremony took place at the Parliament complex in New Delhi, where leaders across political parties gathered to honour Ambedkar’s enduring legacy.

In a heartfelt message shared on X, PM Modi reflected on Ambedkar’s transformative impact on India’s democratic foundation.
“Remembering Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar on Mahaparinirvan Diwas. His visionary leadership and unwavering commitment to justice, equality and constitutionalism continue to guide our national journey… May his ideals keep lighting our path as we work towards building a Viksit Bharat,” the Prime Minister wrote.

The day began with an official floral tribute at Prerna Sthal inside the Parliament House campus, organised by the Dr Ambedkar Foundation under the Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment. President Droupadi Murmu, Vice President C. P. Radhakrishnan, Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla, Parliamentary Affairs Minister Kiren Rijiju, and several MPs were present. Leader of Opposition Rahul Gandhi also attended the event, offering his respects in the early morning VIP session.

Rahul Gandhi later posted on X, saying:
“Humble tributes to Babasaheb Ambedkar on his Mahaparinirvan Diwas. His timeless legacy of equality, justice and human dignity strengthens my resolve to defend the Constitution and inspires our collective struggle for a more inclusive, compassionate India.”

Leaders from various states also joined in the nationwide commemoration. Rajasthan Chief Minister Bhajanlal Sharma paid floral tributes to Ambedkar and highlighted his influence on India’s social justice movement.

As the morning ceremonies concluded, the Parliament complex opened its gates to the public, allowing citizens to offer their respects at the life-size statue of Dr Ambedkar. Thousands of people visited throughout the day, underscoring the deep emotional and ideological connection Indians continue to share with the architect of modern India’s constitutional framework.
