New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi has granted the Indian Armed Forces ‘complete operational freedom’ to respond to the recent terror attack in Pahalgam, Jammu and Kashmir, which claimed the lives of 26 civilians last week. Government sources confirmed to India TV that the decision was made following a high-level meeting chaired by the Prime Minister on Tuesday at his residence in New Delhi.

The 90-minute meeting was attended by key national security and defence leaders, including Union Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, National Security Advisor Ajit Doval, Chief of Defence Staff General Anil Chauhan, and the three service chiefs — Army Chief General Upendra Dwivedi, Navy Chief Admiral Dinesh K Tripathi, and Air Chief Marshal Amar Preet Singh.

During the meeting, the Prime Minister reaffirmed that delivering a “crushing blow” to terrorism was a matter of national resolve. Sources indicated that PM Modi expressed full confidence in the professional capabilities of the Indian Armed Forces and conveyed to senior defence leadership that they have “full operational freedom” to determine the mode, targets, and timing of any military response to the attack.
