New Delhi: In a renewed push to deepen India-US cooperation in emerging technologies, Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday held a telephonic conversation with Tesla and SpaceX CEO Elon Musk. The two leaders discussed collaborative opportunities in areas such as space, mobility, and innovation.

Taking to X (formerly Twitter), PM Modi wrote, “Spoke to @elonmusk and talked about various issues, including the topics we covered during our meeting in Washington DC earlier this year. We discussed the immense potential for collaboration in the areas of technology and innovation. India remains committed to advancing our partnerships with the US in these domains.”

The call marks a continuation of the high-level dialogue between Modi and Musk that began during the Prime Minister’s visit to the United States in June 2023. During that visit, the two met at the historic Blair House in Washington DC, where Musk arrived with his three young children. Following the meeting, Modi had praised Musk’s enthusiasm for innovation and said the discussions centered on “space, mobility, technology and innovation.”

“Had a very good meeting with @elonmusk in Washington DC. We discussed various issues, including those he is passionate about such as space, mobility, technology and innovation. I talked about India’s efforts towards reform and furthering ‘Minimum Government, Maximum Governance’,” the Prime Minister had posted in June 2023.

This was not the first interaction between the two visionaries. Modi and Musk had previously met in California in 2015 and again in New York in 2023, underscoring a sustained dialogue aimed at enhancing India’s technological capabilities and startup ecosystem.

The latest conversation assumes significance at a time when India is rapidly digitizing its economy, investing in AI, semiconductors, electric mobility, and space technology, and encouraging global companies like Tesla and SpaceX to partner in its innovation journey.
