Modi Says TMC Workers ‘Will Have No Place to Hide’ After Results
Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday intensified the BJP’s attack on the ruling Trinamool Congress (TMC) in West Bengal, claiming that the outcome of the Assembly elections would mark the collapse of what he described as the party’s “maha jungle raj.”
Addressing an election rally, the Prime Minister asserted that after the May 4 election results, TMC workers involved in violence and intimidation would be left without protection.
“On 4 May, after the results are declared, TMC goons will have no place to hide. No one will be able to protect them. The first phase of the election has already signalled the end of TMC,” Modi said, projecting confidence in the BJP’s prospects in the state.
Record Turnout Seen as Public Rejection of TMC
The Prime Minister pointed to the high voter turnout in the first phase of polling as a strong sign of public faith in democracy and a growing desire for political change in West Bengal.
According to Modi, the enthusiastic participation of voters reflected the people’s determination to reject the prevailing political climate and bring in a new administration.
He suggested that the polling trend was evidence that the electorate had begun turning away from the TMC government and was looking for an alternative leadership.
BJP Highlights Women’s Safety as Key Election Issue
During the rally, Modi also raised the issue of women’s safety, referring to BJP candidate Ratna Debnath, whose daughter was a victim in the RG Kar rape and murder case.
The Prime Minister said the BJP had given Ratna Debnath a political platform because the party stood with women who had suffered injustice under the present government.
Calling her “our own,” Modi alleged that her daughter became a victim of what he termed the state’s “jungle raj,” and promised that women’s safety would become a top priority if the BJP came to power.
He added that the BJP would stand by women like a “brother”, ensuring stronger security and a safer environment across the state.
Amit Shah Predicts Comfortable BJP Majority
Earlier in the day, Union Home Minister Amit Shah expressed strong optimism about the BJP’s electoral prospects in West Bengal, predicting a decisive victory for the party.
Speaking at a press conference, Shah said the BJP’s internal assessment indicated a commanding lead in the constituencies that have gone to polls.
“The BJP’s Bengal team has conducted its assessment. Based on this, I can say that out of 152 seats, the BJP is likely to win more than 110. Taking the second phase into account as well, the BJP is set to form the government in Bengal,” Shah said.
BJP Steps Up Bengal Campaign Ahead of Next Phase
With the second phase of polling approaching, the BJP leadership has intensified its campaign, portraying the first phase as a clear indication of voter dissatisfaction with the ruling TMC.
The strong remarks from both Prime Minister Modi and Home Minister Shah underline the BJP’s aggressive push to gain power in West Bengal, a state where the political contest has become increasingly fierce.
As campaigning continues, the BJP is seeking to convert voter turnout momentum into electoral gains, while the TMC faces mounting pressure to defend its stronghold in one of the country’s most closely watched state elections.
