Mumbai: Former union Agriculture minister and Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) chief Sharad Pawar blamed the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) led Central Government of failing to keep the law and order under control. The NCP chief further argued that the farmers and jawans from Punjab have always come forward and faced calamities in the nation and hence it is wrong to infer that they are getting support from Pakistan from across the border.
Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA) allies the NCP, Congress and the Shiv Sena on Tuesday slammed the BJP led Central Government for the farmer’s agitation turning violent on Republic Day in New Delhi.
Speaking to newspersons here, the NCP chief said that farmers from Punjab, Haryana and Western Uttar Pradesh held protests in a disciplined manner but the government did not take them seriously. “As the restraint ended, the tractor march was taken out. The Center’s responsibility was to keep law and order in control but they failed. Nobody will support whatever happened today but the reason behind it cannot be ignored either. Those sitting calmly grew angry, the Center did not fulfill its responsibility. Government should act maturely and take the right decision”, remarked Pawar

Pawar said that the central government should show wisdom, engage in dialogue and take a favorable stance while considering the farmers demands. He added that Punjab has recovered now but the government should act so that Punjab does not get upset again
Commenting upon the farmers rally at Azad Maidan on Monday, the NCP president pointed out that a large number of farmers had gathered in Mumbai yesterday, but the state government acted with restraint, so the farmers went quietly. Pawar wanted to know that when the situation is handled with restraint in Mumbai, then why not in Delhi
Senior Shiv Sena leader and Rajya Sabha MP, Sanjay Raut while condemning the violence at the farmers rally in New Delhi argued that it was the Center’s arrogance to be blamed. “What happened needs to be condemned but this is because of the arrogance of the government. We appeal to the government to handle the situation and we will try to co-operate. We have supported the farmers but kept discipline. Sena is with the farmers but we condemn what has happened today. Today is a day of national pride. Seeing the constitution being flouted this way is disappointing”.
He further added “If they had assured the government then they should have kept their word but this has not happened. The responsibility lies on both sides. The government has entire infrastructure. Despite this the farmers came to the Red Fort”.

Maharashtra Pradesh Congress Committee (MPCC) and Maharashtra Revenue Minister Balasaheb Thorat reacting to the developments stated that the farmers have been protesting on the Delhi border for 61 days in protest demanding the repealing of the agricultural laws. He blamed the Prime Minister Narendra Modi led government at the Center for the situation.
“Even as the agitation started in the bitter winter cold, Prime Minister Narendra Modi as the head of the country did not even take a simple note of this historic agitation. Today the tractor rally in Delhi took a violent turn, which is inappropriate and cannot be supported. Even after ten rounds of talks, the government has not come to any decision. Instead, the movement was discredited as Khalistani”, remarked Thorat.
