Parliament’s Monsoon Session From July 20 To August 13; Key Political Issues Expected To Dominate Agenda

The Centre has officially announced that the Monsoon Session of Parliament will begin on July 20 and continue until August 13, following approval from President Droupadi Murmu. The announcement was made by Parliamentary Affairs Minister Kiren Rijiju, who said both Houses have been summoned to discuss important national matters during the nearly four-week session.

The government stated that the session will provide a platform for debates, legislative business and decisions on issues affecting the country.

First Session After Major Political Changes

The upcoming session is expected to attract significant political attention as it will be the first Parliament meeting after major political developments in several states.

Recent changes in the composition of opposition parties, including splits within the Trinamool Congress (TMC) and the Shiv Sena (UBT), are likely to influence parliamentary proceedings. Several MPs have switched political camps in recent months, and decisions regarding their official recognition in the Lok Sabha are still pending before the Speaker.

These developments could lead to heated exchanges between the ruling National Democratic Alliance (NDA) and opposition parties during the session.

Government May Push Key Legislative Agenda

Apart from routine legislative business, the government is expected to introduce or revisit several important Bills during the session.

One of the major issues likely to remain under discussion is the proposed constitutional amendment relating to women’s reservation in legislatures and the expansion of Lok Sabha seats. The earlier version of the Bill failed to secure approval in the previous session, prompting the Centre to rework the proposal.

According to government sources, discussions are underway on a revised formula for increasing parliamentary seats while addressing concerns raised by several states.

NDA Strengthened In Parliament

The political equations inside Parliament have also changed after the recent Rajya Sabha elections, which strengthened the NDA’s position in the Upper House.

With shifting alliances and changing numbers in both Houses, the government is expected to enter the Monsoon Session with greater confidence in advancing its legislative agenda.

Stormy Session Likely

Political observers expect the Monsoon Session to witness intense debates on governance, national security, economic issues and recent political developments across the country. Opposition parties are also likely to raise several contentious issues, making the session one of the most closely watched parliamentary meetings of the year.

As Parliament prepares to reconvene later this month, both the government and opposition are gearing up for a politically charged session that could shape the national agenda in the months ahead.
