Clash Breaks Out At Pappu Yadav’s Delhi Residence During Press Meet; MP Alleges Assassination Bid

A dramatic confrontation unfolded at the Delhi residence of Independent MP Pappu Yadav on Sunday after an unidentified man allegedly attempted to approach him during a press conference, triggering chaos among supporters. The Purnea MP later claimed the incident was a planned attempt on his life and renewed his demand for enhanced security.

Supporters Detain Suspect During Commotion

According to people present at the venue, the situation escalated when a man allegedly moved towards Yadav during the media interaction, prompting supporters to intervene. A scuffle followed before the individual was restrained and handed over to the police.

Supporters alleged that the man was carrying a knife, which they claimed was recovered after he was overpowered. Police took possession of the alleged weapon and began questioning the suspect.

Police Identify Detained Individual

Delhi Police sources identified the detained man as Sumit, 34, who is employed in Ghaziabad and is originally from Uttar Pradesh’s Bulandshahr district. Police also detained another individual, identified as Happy, who was reportedly waiting outside the residence in a car. Authorities are investigating the circumstances surrounding their presence and possible involvement.

Pappu Yadav Claims Attempt To Kill Him

Reacting to the incident, Pappu Yadav alleged that the confrontation was an attempt to assassinate him and criticised the Delhi Police for not providing him with adequate security despite repeated requests.

“There was an attempt to kill me. Some ‘Baba’ was saying, ‘Burn him alive,’ while others were saying, ‘Kill him.’ If people hadn’t been here, I would have been finished. I haven’t said anything. I only asked Champat Rai or Giri Ji, where did the 200 kg of silver go? Where did the gold go?” Yadav told ANI.

Controversy Follows Parliament Skit

The incident comes amid a political storm over a skit performed by Pappu Yadav and several Opposition MPs inside the Parliament complex, where they raised questions regarding the alleged theft of donations linked to the Ram Temple.

The performance sparked sharp criticism from the BJP, which accused the Opposition leaders of insulting religious sentiments.

BJP national general secretary Tarun Chugh said, “These are the same people who boycotted the construction of the Ram temple. Today, they are mocking the symbols of faith associated with Shri Ram Janmabhoomi, making jokes and ridiculing them.”

FIR Registered Against Opposition Leaders

The controversy has also taken a legal turn. An FIR has been lodged in Varanasi against Pappu Yadav and Congress leader Rahul Gandhi in connection with the Parliament skit. The complaint also names AAP convenor Arvind Kejriwal, Samajwadi Party chief Akhilesh Yadav and MP Awadhesh Prasad. Police are examining the allegations and further investigation is underway.
