A Delhi court on Monday acquitted former Wrestling Federation of India (WFI) chief and BJP leader Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh in the sexual harassment case filed by several women wrestlers, ruling that the prosecution had failed to prove the allegations beyond reasonable doubt.
Court Finds Evidence Insufficient
The verdict was delivered by the Rouse Avenue Court, which concluded that the prosecution could not establish the charges to the legal standard required for conviction. As a result, the court cleared Singh of all allegations in the case.
Case Stemmed From Complaints By Women Wrestlers
The case had drawn nationwide attention after several women wrestlers accused Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh of sexual harassment, triggering protests and demands for legal action. The matter became one of the most widely discussed controversies in Indian sports, leading to a police investigation and court proceedings.
Acquittal Ends Trial
With Monday’s judgment, the court brought the trial to a close, stating that the evidence presented during the proceedings was not sufficient to sustain the charges against the former WFI chief. The ruling resulted in Singh’s acquittal in the case.
