Over 40 lakh doses of Covid vaccine administered on second day of Teeka Utsav across country

India’s COVID vaccination drive has gained remarkable momentum after Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s clarion call to observe Teeka Utsav from 11th to 14th of this month.

On the 2nd day of the special vaccination drive, the nation recorded inoculation of over 40 lakh doses. The 87th day since the beginning of the largest & fastest vaccination programme, the country also registered substantial increase in the number of total Covid Vaccination Centres engaged in vaccination. The number of Covid Vaccination Centres in the country increased from nearly 45 thousand to around 71 thousand registering a growth of over 26 thousand centres in a single day.

With many workplace vaccination centres also witnessing heavy turnout of beneficiaries, the cumulative number of vaccine doses given in the country now stands at over 10 crore 85 lakh.

The nation commenced the largest vaccination drive in the world on 16th January this year with vaccination of healthcare workers. Vaccination of front line workers began from 2nd February whereas from 1st of March vaccination of everyone aged above 60 years and above 45 years with specified co-morbidities was undertaken. Widening the scope of Vaccination, from 1st of this month, under the current phase everyone above the age of 45 is being vaccinated.

The Health Ministry has informed that in a short span of time over 7 crore 60 lakh people above 45 years have already been administered the first shot of the COVID-19 Vaccine whereas in the same age group over 30 lakh people have been fully vaccinated after receiving their second dose of vaccination.
