New Delhi: The monsoon session of Parliament saw fresh turbulence today as key opposition leaders, including Lok Sabha Leader of Opposition Rahul Gandhi and Samajwadi Party president Akhilesh Yadav, led a protest at Makar Dwar, one of the main entry gates of the Parliament complex. The demonstration was held in response to the controversial Special Intensive Review (SIR) exercise recently launched in Bihar.
Holding placards and raising slogans, the protesting MPs accused the central government of “targeted surveillance and profiling” under the guise of administrative review. The Opposition has alleged that the SIR, carried out across select districts of Bihar, is being misused for political purposes and is infringing on citizens’ privacy.
