In a decisive move to counter terrorism, India launched Operation Sindoor, a tri-services operation that carried out precision missile strikes on terrorist infrastructure across Pakistan and Pakistan-Occupied Kashmir (PoK) in the early hours of May 7. The strikes were a direct retaliation to the deadly terror attack in Pahalgam, Jammu and Kashmir, on April 22, which left 26 people, mostly tourists, dead.

The operation, carried out at 1:44 am, targeted critical locations believed to be the operational hubs of terrorist organizations, including Jaish-e-Mohammed (JeM) and Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT), responsible for orchestrating attacks against India. According to Indian Army reports, the missile strikes hit key sites used for planning and launching attacks, including training camps and launchpads in both Pakistan and PoK.

Targeted Locations:

  1. Markaz Subhan Allah, Bahawalpur (Pakistan’s Punjab): A key headquarters of JeM, linked to the 2019 Pulwama attack.
  2. Markaz Taiba, Nangal Sahdan, Muridke, Sheikhupura (Punjab, Pakistan): A major training center of LeT.
  3. Sarjal/Tehra Kalan Facility, Shakargarh, District Narowal (Punjab, Pakistan): A primary site for JeM’s infiltration efforts into Jammu and Kashmir.
  4. Mehmoona Joya Facility, Sialkot (Punjab, Pakistan): Hizbul Mujahideen’s operational hub, located near a government hospital to conceal its activities.
  5. Markaz Ahle Hadith Barnala, Bhimber (PoK): A key infiltration point for LeT terrorists into Indian territory.
  6. Markaz Abbas, Kotli (PoJK): A JeM facility located close to the Kotli military camp, vital for launching terrorist operations.
  7. Maskar Raheel Shahid, Kotli (PoK): A Hizbul Mujahideen camp, one of the oldest terror facilities in the region.
  8. Shawai Nallah Camp, Muzaffarabad (PoK): A critical LeT training camp involved in recruiting and training cadres.
  9. Markaz Syedna Bilal, Muzaffarabad (PoK): A JeM camp, hosting up to 100 terrorists, with backing from Pakistan’s Special Services Group.

Pakistan’s Response and Fallout:

In retaliation, Pakistan reported casualties, claiming that at least eight individuals were killed, and 35 others injured, as a result of the Indian missile strikes in cities of Punjab and PoK. The strikes have escalated tensions between the two countries, already strained following the Pahalgam terror attack.
