Despite Mumbai having lesser Positivity rates at 3.76% and fairly eligible for more relaxations, the BMC Commissioner once again, extra cautiously, denied any relaxations to Mumbaikars.
This is going to add extra worriers on the economical front as traders and shopkeepers are now exhausted with all their survival resources and are eagerly waiting for much-needed relaxation on working hours.
Keeping their establishments open for few hours a day and incurring full day’s expenses are not feasible anymore. This is like a two-sided open sword for businessmen.
Customers, with the restricted mode of public transport and limited hours of operations, are shying away from visiting marketplaces and shops. This gives a clear cut advantage to E-Commerce and online portals as they operate in full swing without such restrictions.
We fail to understand such a double standard of authorities wherein illegal hawkers, roadside vendors and E-commerce are enjoying restrictionless operations and as usual only shops and private offices are made scapegoat.
We request Hon’ble BMC Commissioner to reconsider his today’s decision and at least allow shops to remain open for normal working hours as shops never causes overcrowding like roadside vendors.
We appeal to Hon’ble Chief Minister to intervene and grant needed and basic relief to traders and shopkeepers so that all offline businesses can be survived and the general public can visit market areas, shops at their convenience and can avoid overcrowding.
