In a tragic incident that claimed the lives of 288 people and left over 1000 injured, the opposition parties have wasted no time in targeting the BJP government. The Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) spokesperson, Clyde Crasto, has now raised concerns over the non-utilization of a substantial fund allocated to the South East Railways Zone for the anti-collision system, known as Kavach.
Crasto took to Twitter to demand an explanation from the Government of India and Railways Minister, Mr. Ashwini Vaishnaw, stating that they owe the country an answer as to why the allocated funds of over Rs 468 Cr were left unused in the last three years. In his tweet, Crasto emphasized that had the funds been utilized, this unfortunate accident could have been prevented, saving precious lives in Balasore, Odisha.
Days after the tragedy, Prime Minister Modi personally visited the accident site and pledged severe punishment for those found responsible for the incident.
“It’s a painful incident. The government will leave no stone unturned for the treatment of those injured. It’s a serious incident, and instructions have been issued for the probe from every angle. Those found guilty will be punished stringently. The railways is working towards track restoration. I met the injured victims,” Modi said after visiting a hospital in Odisha’s Balasore where injured passengers are being treated.
