Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis on Tuesday told the state Assembly the Centre has not taken any decision to move the textile commissioner’s office to New Delhi from Mumbai.

He said the textile commissioner’s office in the financial capital has around 500 employees.

“No decision has been taken to move the textile commissioner’s office from Mumbai. Only the textile commissioner and five other officers have been asked to work in Delhi for a few days for rebuilding, strengthening the textile ministry and framing some policies related to the textile industry,” Fadnavis said in the Lower House.

His remarks came after the Opposition sought to know whether the textile commissioner’s office was being moved to the national capital.

Mumbai was once home to scores of textile mills, but most of them are non-operational now.
