Minister Nitish Kumar may be preparing to move to the Rajya Sabha. The buzz has intensified during a crucial meeting of the Janata Dal (United) (JD(U)), where senior party leaders gathered to discuss strategy ahead of the upcoming Rajya Sabha elections in the state.

Although there has been no official confirmation, political observers believe that such a move could trigger a leadership transition in Bihar.

High-Level JD(U) Meeting Underway

According to party sources and media reports, top JD(U) leaders including Sanjay Jha and Rajiv Ranjan Singh are present at the ongoing strategy meeting. Bihar is set to witness elections for five Rajya Sabha seats, making this a crucial moment for alliance partners.

The JD(U) currently holds two of these seats, while the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) is expected to contest two seats as part of the alliance understanding. The remaining seat could see strategic negotiations depending on political calculations.

Son’s Political Entry Adds Fuel to Speculation

The political chatter intensified after reports suggested that Nitish Kumar’s son, Nishant Kumar, may soon make a formal entry into active politics. Earlier, there were discussions within party circles about a possible Rajya Sabha nomination from the JD(U) quota for a family member, though nothing has been officially declared.

If Nitish Kumar himself shifts to Parliament’s Upper House, it could open the door for a major reshuffle in Bihar’s power structure.

Who Will Be the Next Bihar Chief Minister?

If Nitish Kumar resigns as Chief Minister, a big question remains: who will take charge of Bihar? Political observers say the BJP may stake claim to the top post or negotiate a power-sharing formula within the alliance.

Meanwhile, BJP state president Nitin Nabin is reportedly set to enter Parliament through one of the BJP’s Rajya Sabha seats. His elevation to the national stage may also influence leadership equations in Bihar.

However, the BJP has not publicly clarified whether it would nominate its own Chief Minister if Nitish steps aside.

Alliance Stability Under Watch

The development has sparked intense debate in Patna’s political circles. While some see this as a strategic move by Nitish Kumar to play a bigger role in national politics, others believe it could be part of a long-term succession plan within the party.

For now, all eyes remain on the outcome of the JD(U) meeting and the official announcement regarding Rajya Sabha candidates. Until then, the political temperature in Bihar is expected to remain high.
