Nitish Kumar Announces 35% Job Reservation for Women, Launches Youth Commission Ahead of Bihar Polls

Patna: In a major pre-election decision, Chief Minister Nitish Kumar has announced 35% reservation for women in all state government jobs and services. The move, approved during a cabinet meeting chaired by Kumar, aims to promote gender equality and women’s participation in the workforce within Bihar.

The reservation policy will apply only to women who are residents of Bihar and will not extend to women from other states. This decision is being seen as a strategic step ahead of the upcoming Bihar Assembly elections scheduled for later this year.

In another significant decision, the Bihar government has approved the formation of the Bihar Youth Commission, a new body that will focus on employment, training, and empowerment of the state’s youth. The commission will consist of a chairperson, two vice-chairpersons, and seven members. Importantly, the maximum age limit for members will be 45 years.

The commission’s role will be to advise the government on youth-related matters, coordinate with various departments to boost education and employment, and ensure that local youth are given priority in private sector jobs within the state. It will also aim to support Bihari students and professionals working or studying outside the state.
