“Everyone Has the Right to Protest”: BJP Leader Narendra Mehta on MNS Mira Road Agitation

Mumbai: Amid the ongoing controversy over the Maharashtra Navnirman Sena’s (MNS) protest in Mira Road over the Marathi language row, BJP leader Narendra Mehta has stated that every citizen has the democratic right to protest, including Marathi-speaking individuals.

“Everyone in this country has the right to hold a protest, whether it’s Marathi people or others. People try to raise their issues through movements and democratic means and they have every right to do so,” Mehta said, reacting to the events surrounding the MNS agitation.

The protest, which was aimed at alleged disregard for the Marathi language by some traders in Mira Road, saw police action, reportedly to control the situation. Mehta clarified that the reason behind the police intervention could best be explained by law enforcement authorities. However, he pointed out a possible disconnect between those who organized the protest and those who led it on the ground.

“From the little information I have, it seems the ones organizing the protest and the ones leading it are not the same. To prevent any potential law and order situation in the future that could later be blamed on the government, the police are taking the actions they deem appropriate,” Mehta added.
