BJP MP Nishikant Dubey on Wednesday launched a sharp political attack on the Congress party and the Nehru-Gandhi family, calling the 1947 partition plan the “Mountbatten-Nehru-Jinnah agreement” and holding it responsible for several historical and political issues, including the Kashmir dispute.
In a post shared on social media platform X, Dubey described the events surrounding the partition as a “dark chapter” in India’s history and made strong allegations about decisions taken during the final phase of British rule.
“Dark Chapter in Congress History,” Says Dubey
Dubey wrote that the decisions linked to partition were taken during high-level discussions in 1947 and claimed that they laid the foundation for long-term problems in the country.
In his post, he said: “On June 3, 1947, Mountbatten announced the creation of India and Pakistan. This declaration was based on decisions taken during meetings held in Shimla between May 10 to 12, 1947.”
He further claimed that these developments were responsible for shaping the political structure of partition and its consequences.
Allegations Against Congress and Nehru-Gandhi Family
Escalating his attack, Dubey alleged that the Congress leadership played a central role in decisions taken during partition and strongly criticised the Nehru-Gandhi family.
He said: “In the Mountbatten-Nehru-Jinnah agreement, Kashmir was kept separate, which later became a long-standing issue for India.”
He also made controversial remarks about the role of leaders during that period, claiming that major decisions were taken without broader consent.
Kashmir Issue and Historical Claims
Dubey further argued that the arrangement made during partition continues to impact India even today, especially in Jammu and Kashmir.
He added that the decisions taken at that time “sowed the seeds” of ongoing challenges in the region.
“This declaration of June 3, 1947, is one of the most impactful and debated events in world history,” he said in his post.
Earlier Remarks on Congress
This is not the first time the BJP leader has targeted the Congress over historical decisions. Earlier, he had criticised agreements related to water sharing with Bangladesh, alleging that such decisions harmed India’s national interests and affected farmers and border states.
He also referred to past Congress-led governments, claiming that multiple policy decisions taken after independence weakened India’s strategic position.
