In a major political development in Bihar, Chief Minister Samrat Choudhary on Thursday expanded his cabinet with the induction of 31 ministers, including Nishant Kumar, marking the formal political entry of former Chief Minister Nitish Kumar’s son.
The large-scale swearing-in ceremony took place at Gandhi Maidan in the presence of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Union Home Minister Amit Shah and senior NDA leaders.
Governor Administers Oath To 31 Ministers
The oath of office was administered by Governor Syed Ata Hasnain as leaders from all five NDA alliance partners joined the newly expanded council of ministers.
Apart from Nishant Kumar, several senior political faces were inducted into the cabinet, including former deputy chief minister Vijay Kumar Sinha and experienced leaders Shrawon Kumar and Ashok Choudhary.
The cabinet expansion is being viewed as a significant step towards strengthening the NDA government following the recent leadership transition in the state.
Nishant Kumar’s Entry Marks Major Political Shift
Nishant Kumar’s induction into the ministry has emerged as one of the biggest talking points of the cabinet reshuffle.
His entry comes weeks after Nitish Kumar stepped down from the chief minister’s post following his election to the Rajya Sabha, ending a long political era in Bihar.
Political observers see Nishant’s inclusion as a possible beginning of a generational shift within the Janata Dal (United) leadership structure.
NDA Allies Get Representation In New Cabinet
The new ministry includes representation from all major NDA partners in Bihar, reflecting efforts to maintain alliance balance after the change in leadership.
Besides the BJP and JD(U), the ruling coalition also includes Lok Janshakti Party (Ram Vilas) led by Union Minister Chirag Paswan, Hindustani Awam Morcha (Secular) headed by Jitan Ram Manjhi and the Rashtriya Lok Morcha led by Rajya Sabha MP Upendra Kushwaha.
Alliance leaders had been awaiting representation in the new council of ministers after the formation of the Samrat Choudhary government last month.
First BJP-Led Government In Bihar
The present government carries historical significance as it marks the first time a BJP leader has become Chief Minister of Bihar.
Samrat Choudhary took charge after Nitish Kumar resigned from the top post, leading to a major political transition within the NDA alliance in the state.
The cabinet expansion is expected to strengthen the government’s organisational and political structure ahead of future electoral challenges.
