A gas leak incident in Mumbai’s Chembur East late Thursday night resulted in burns for nine individuals, including a minor, though fortunately, no fatalities have been reported thus far, authorities confirmed. The severity of the situation is underscored by the serious condition of three of the injured.

The fire broke out around 11:48 pm near a Jain temple in Siddharth Colony, quickly prompting response efforts. By 11:56 pm, the flames were successfully extinguished. According to a preliminary report provided by the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC), the fire was triggered by a gas cylinder leakage.

Among the injured are Shreyas Sonkhambe (17), Sangita Gaikwad (55), Jitendra Kamble (46), Yashoda Gaikwad (50), Narmada Gaikwad (60), Ramesh Gaikwad (56), Shreyas Gaikwad (40), Vrishabh Gaikwad (23), and Sandip Jadhav (42).

Yashoda, Narmada, and Ramesh are reportedly in critical condition, having sustained burns ranging from 50% to 60%, while the condition of the others is currently stable. They have been admitted to various hospitals including the civic-run Rajawadi Hospital, Sion Hospital, Shatabdi Hospital, and Manek Hospital for treatment and care.
