State-run oil major Indian Oil Corporation Ltd (IOCL) has announced that commercial LPG supply has recovered to nearly 70 percent of pre-crisis levels, offering relief amid ongoing geopolitical tensions affecting energy markets.
The company said it is actively working to ensure stable and efficient fuel supply across the country, supporting both households and businesses during the current uncertain period.
Government Says LPG Booking Hits Record Levels
Officials also confirmed that no LPG distributorship in the country has reported stock depletion. On April 4 alone, more than 51 lakh domestic cylinders were delivered, showcasing the system’s ability to handle high demand.
Strict Measures to Prevent Diversion
To ensure transparency and prevent misuse, Delivery Authentication Code (DAC)-based deliveries have significantly increased to 90 percent, up from 53 percent in February before disruptions linked to the Iran conflict.
Authorities believe this step has improved tracking and reduced chances of diversion in the supply chain.
Demand for Small Cylinders Sees Sharp Rise
There has been a noticeable increase in demand for smaller LPG cylinders. Sales of 5 kg cylinders crossed 90,000 in a single day, with around 6.6 lakh units sold since March 23.
These cylinders are easily available at nearby distributors and can be purchased with valid ID proof, without the need for address verification, making them more accessible to consumers.
Fuel Stocks Adequate, Refineries Running at Full Capacity
The government has assured that all refineries are operating at high capacity and that there is sufficient crude oil inventory in place. Adequate stocks of petrol, diesel and LPG are available nationwide, and domestic LPG production has also been increased to meet rising demand.
Public Urged to Avoid Panic Buying
Authorities have urged citizens to avoid panic buying or unnecessary LPG bookings. Consumers have been advised to use online booking systems instead of visiting distributors physically.
IOCL reiterated that priority is being given to essential sectors such as hospitals, pharmaceuticals and educational institutions to ensure uninterrupted fuel supply.
Is there any LPG shortage in India
No, the government and IOCL have confirmed that there is no shortage, and supply is steadily improving.
Why are people being asked to avoid panic booking
Authorities want to ensure smooth distribution and prevent unnecessary pressure on the system, as sufficient fuel stocks are already available.
