In a sharp political attack from Guwahati, Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge targeted the Assam government, alleging widespread corruption and delay in justice under Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma.
Addressing a public gathering, Kharge said, “They make fun of Gaurav Gogoi by calling him the CM’s son… I want to ask what the PM, Home Minister, Mohan Bhagwat, and RSS have to say about this corruption.”
“No Other State Has Such a Corrupt CM”
Escalating his criticism, Kharge made a strong remark, stating, “You won’t find such a corrupt Chief Minister in any other state in India.”
He questioned the BJP leadership’s stance on corruption, saying that while they claim to oppose corrupt individuals, their actions in Assam suggest otherwise.
Justice Delay Becomes Key Poll Issue
Kharge also raised concerns over alleged delays in delivering justice, referring to the case involving Zubeen Garg. He claimed that instead of acting swiftly, authorities took six months to establish a fast-track court.
“I don’t know who they were trying to protect,” Kharge said, hinting at possible political shielding.
Congress Promise: Action in 100 Days
Positioning Congress as an alternative, Kharge promised that if his party forms the government, it will deliver justice within 100 days and ensure strict punishment for those responsible.
“This is our promise,” he said, signaling a strong campaign plank centered on accountability and governance.
Political Temperature Rises in Assam
