NCP MLA Jitendra Awhad has found himself embroiled in controversy following his recent remarks about Lord Rama, drawing widespread criticism from political circles and Hindu communities. Despite issuing an apology, the backlash against Awhad continues to persist, with Aditi Tatkare, Minister of Women and Children Development and a former colleague, publicly condemning his statement.
Awhad’s comment stirred a wave of disapproval, prompting Tatkare to assert the importance of considering public sentiments before making statements, particularly regarding sensitive matters like religious beliefs. “No one should make statements like Awhad. No one has the right to hurt the sentiments of citizens. It is unfortunate that he doesn’t have a sense of responsibility,” remarked Tatkare during her visit to inaugurate a children’s rights center in Nashik.
The controversy arose during the NCP state convention’s inaugural day in Shirdi, where Awhad made remarks about Lord Rama that drew strong criticism from BJP leaders statewide. In response to mounting pressure, Awhad expressed regret for his statement on Thursday, clarifying that he had conducted research before making the controversial remark.
