NCP MLA Jitendra Awhad vehemently criticized the Election Commission’s decision to award the Nationalist Congress Party name and symbol to the breakaway faction led by Ajit Pawar. Awhad vowed to challenge the decision in the Supreme Court, denouncing it as a political maneuver that undermines the legacy of veteran leader Sharad Pawar.

In a scathing statement, Awhad described Ajit Pawar as the sole orchestrator behind the political upheaval within the party, accusing him of politically suffocating Sharad Pawar. Despite the setback, Awhad expressed confidence in Sharad Pawar’s resilience, likening him to a phoenix that will rise again. He affirmed the enduring strength of the faction, asserting, “We still have the power because we have Sharad Pawar… We will go to the Supreme Court.”

Awhad took to social media platform X to voice his discontent following the EC verdict. In his posts, he hailed Sharad Pawar as the ‘lion’ among wolves and criticized Ajit Pawar’s alleged disloyalty, questioning his ability to remain faithful to the people.

The Election Commission’s decision, announced on Tuesday, designated Ajit Pawar’s faction as the legitimate political entity within the NCP, dealing a significant blow to Sharad Pawar’s faction. The allocation of the party’s clock symbol to Ajit Pawar’s faction marked a decisive resolution to the internal dispute, which had persisted through numerous hearings over several months.

Furthermore, the EC offered Sharad Pawar’s faction a one-time opportunity to claim a name for its new political formation and provide three preferences to the Commission. This provision must be utilized by February 7, 2024, underscoring the pivotal juncture in the NCP’s political trajectory.
