Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday extended his Navy Day greetings, praising the Indian Navy as a force defined by “unmatched courage, unwavering determination, and an expanding spirit of self-reliance.” His message, posted on X, highlighted the Navy’s growing role in national security and India’s maritime ambitions, while also recalling his Diwali celebration last year aboard INS Vikrant.
Modi wrote that the Navy continues to strengthen India’s position as a formidable maritime power. “Our Navy safeguards our seas, protects our national interests, and stands tall with modern capabilities built through self-reliance,” the Prime Minister said. He added that the force’s push toward indigenisation has significantly enhanced India’s defence preparedness.
The Prime Minister also shared a video of his time on India’s first indigenously built aircraft carrier. “I will always remember this year’s Diwali, celebrated with our brave Naval personnel on INS Vikrant,” he wrote, calling the experience deeply inspiring.
During that Diwali visit in October in Goa, Modi reaffirmed his tradition of celebrating the festival with the armed forces. “For 11 years now, my Diwali has been with my family — the Indian Armed Forces,” he had declared.
Navy Showcases Power in Thiruvananthapuram
Ahead of Navy Day, the Indian Navy conducted a stunning “Operational Demonstration” at Shangumugham beach in Thiruvananthapuram, offering a rare public glimpse of its combat skills, coordinated operations, and indigenous technologies. The event highlighted everything from precision aerial manoeuvres to amphibious landings and special operations capabilities.
President Droupadi Murmu attended the grand demonstration as the Chief Guest, welcomed by Navy Chief Admiral Dinesh K. Tripathi. A ceremonial Guard of Honour by 150 sailors marked her arrival. Kerala Governor Arlekar, Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan, senior military commanders, Central officials, and thousands of citizens witnessed the show of maritime strength.

Navy Day is observed every year on December 4 to honour the Navy’s contribution to national security and commemorate the success of Operation Trident — the daring 1971 mission in which Indian naval forces crippled Pakistan’s Karachi harbour.
