Srinagar: In commemoration of the Swarnim Vijay Varsh, marked as the historic victory over Pakistan during the 1971 war, the Naugam Brigade began a two-day celebration on October 26. The celebrations mark the gallant war veterans of 9 Sikh who fought the battle in Naugam sector with unparalleled valour.
The celebrations commenced with the wreath laying and paying homage to the martyrs and followed up with an event on sharing of war experiences – an account of personal narratives by the veterans and civil porters who made the impossible possible for our motherland.
Recalling the bravery of 9 Sikh in 1971 war, Lt Gen Raj Sujlana (retd) during the interaction was overwhelmed to be at the place of resounding ‘Jaikaras’ where they achieved respect and honours as “War Heroes”.
For all war veterans, it was a strong nostalgic moment where the battle cry of toughest times is still re-echoed. Cultural performances of children and youth of the local area added colours to the event.
The veterans visited the battle field locations at KB, wherein they sought the blessings of Peerbaba and interacted with the soldiers. Veterans also included those on whose name the existing posts at Line of Control (LoC) were named after war to recognise their heroic act.
The event was well received and appreciated by veterans and locals alike.
