Srinagar: On the joyous occasion of National Women’s Day, the birth anniversary of “The Nightingale of India”, Sarojini Naidu, all the eminent personalities spanning from the field of social activists, academics, entrepreneurs & young achievers from different folds of Sopore and adjoining areas gathered to celebrate National Women’s Day in Sopore Degree college. The gathering commemorated the proponent on the joyous day.
The event started with lighting of lamp by the chief guest Shikha Slaria and remembering Sarojini Naidu on the day followed by a group song and cultural dance as a tribute to the nightingale of India by “Naujawan Group, Baramulla”.
The celebration was carried further ahead by a speech from Masrat Kar, Chairperson of Municipal Council, Sopore, Tasleema Akhtar, Dr Mehar Rathar and Anika Nazir in which they highlighted the importance of women empowerment & assistance provided by the Indian Army in taking all the steps for the women empowerment in the region.
During the event a total of Six Self Help Groups (SHGs) from Sopore, Dangiwacha, Kalamabad, Zachaldara and Panzala were inaugurated. The groups were given the welcome kit in which their joint account was opened and given a token of remembrance by the chief guest. The event also witnessed felicitation of eight women achievers who have fought against all odds and excelled in their respective fields.
Shikha Slaria addressed the gathering and complemented the efforts by the women in bringing the talent under one umbrella and facilitating others to become self-sufficient. The event culminated with the word of thanks from Masrat Kar, MC Chairperson, Sopore.
