National Space Day: PM Modi Hails Astronaut Shubhanshu Shukla’s ISS Tricolour Moment, Announces Creation of India’s Astronaut Pool

New Delhi: Marking National Space Day, Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday celebrated India’s growing achievements in space exploration, declaring that the nation has now joined the league of global powers with the capability of docking and undocking in space.

Addressing the nation, the Prime Minister recalled his meeting with Group Captain Shubhanshu Shukla, who recently scripted history by hoisting the Indian tricolour aboard the International Space Station (ISS). Modi described the experience as unforgettable: “The moment, the feeling when he was showing me the tricolour, is beyond words. He filled every Indian with pride.”

The Prime Minister said that in his conversation with Shukla, he witnessed the “immense courage and infinite dreams of the youth of new India.” Stressing the need to harness this energy, Modi announced the creation of a dedicated “astronaut pool” to prepare the next generation of Indian space explorers.

“Today on Space Day, I invite my young friends to join this astronaut pool to give wings to India’s dreams,” he said, calling on the country’s youth to embrace the spirit of innovation and adventure.
