Maharashtra’s Nashik was one of the badly hit districts in the second wave of COVID -19.

Although, there has been a decline in daily caseload since last few days, with 65 patients succumbing to the infection on Tuesday there is a palpable sense of fear among people.

Taking the onus to inoculate its citizens, the Nashik Municipal Corporation has decided to purchase 5 lakh Sputnik vaccine doses immediately to run the vaccination drive.

news agency reports, Nasik city and the district was hit hard by coronavirus in the second wave with large number of fatalities.

In this backdrop, the Nashik municipal corporation has decided to purchase five lakh doses of Sputnik vaccine on immediate basis to carry out the vaccination drive in the city.

The Nashik municipal commissioner Kailas Jadhav said that a corresponding letter to the distributor as well as supplier has been given.

He said the municipal corporation has decided to inoculate maximum citizens before the anticipated third wave of corona.

He added that Nashik will get five lakh vaccine doses from the supplier giving doses to Mumbai municipal corporation.

Meanwhile, the BMC has received a response from three more suppliers to its global tender to inoculate more than one crore Mumbai residents with vaccine against COVID-19.

With this, the total number of potential suppliers has gone up to 8.

Out of the 8 proposals submitted to Mumbai civic body, 7 suppliers have shown interest in supplying Sputnik light vaccine while remaining one has opted for Astra Zeneca and Pfizer.
