Nagpur’s Shivaji Chowk witnessed escalating tensions following a stone-pelting incident. The unrest began between 7:00 and 7:30 PM when two opposing groups converged near the chowk, engaging in slogan shouting. Police intervened promptly, dispersing the factions towards Chitnis Park.
However, the situation intensified as stones were hurled at law enforcement from the Bhaldarpura area beyond Chitnis Park. In response, police deployed tear gas to control the crowd. Reports indicate several vehicles, including a crane, were set ablaze during the chaos. Barricades have been erected at strategic points as authorities strive to restore order.
Chief Minister and Home Minister Devendra Fadnavis addressed the incident, urging Nagpur residents to maintain peace and cooperate with the administration during this challenging time. He emphasized the importance of unity and assured citizens that the situation is under close monitoring to prevent further escalation.
