A powerful explosion tore through an explosives manufacturing unit in Maharashtra’s Nagpur district on Sunday, leaving at least 17 people dead and 18 others injured, according to state authorities. The incident occurred at a factory in Raulgaon village, triggering a large-scale emergency response.
Chief Minister Calls Incident “Deeply Tragic”
Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis described the explosion as a heartbreaking tragedy and said he is personally monitoring developments. He confirmed that senior district officials rushed to the site shortly after the blast.
Emergency teams, including the National Disaster Response Force and State Disaster Response Force, were deployed to assist in search and rescue operations. Technical experts from regulatory bodies overseeing explosives and industrial safety have also joined the investigation.
The Chief Minister expressed condolences to the families of those who lost their lives and assured that the injured are receiving immediate medical attention in Nagpur hospitals.
Casualties and Emergency Response
Nagpur Rural Superintendent of Police Harssh Poddar confirmed the death toll and said several of the injured are in critical condition. Ambulances transported victims to nearby medical facilities as rescue workers combed through debris for possible survivors.
The explosion occurred inside the premises of SBL Energy Limited, a company involved in the production of industrial explosives. The exact trigger for the blast has not yet been determined.
Probe Underway
Authorities have sealed off the area and launched a detailed investigation to determine the cause of the explosion. Forensic teams are expected to examine the site once rescue operations conclude.
