LoP Devendra Fadnavis criticised the MVA govt
Govt passed an amendment in Maharashtra Universities act 2016 during the winter session
Mumbai: In a sharp attack on Uddhav Thackeray led Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA) government, Leader of Opposition Devendra Fadnavis alleged that the Thackeray government want to make Governor ‘Puppet’ of their hand by ratifying the amendment in Maharashtra University Act 2016.
The MVA government has recently approved the amendment bill in University Act in both the House of State Legislature during the recently concluded Winter Session. According to this amendment, the government has created a new post as Pro-Chancellor who has given more powers than Chancellor or Governor.
Devendra Fadnavis led opposition Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) had opposed the amendment bill in the House. Now the BJP has decided to be aware of party karykartas over this issue.
While addressing party workers in Mumbai on Thursday, Fadnavis said, “MVA government has created a new post equivalent to Vice-chancellor which Minister for higher and technical education will be heading. Now minister will head the Senate”. is the minister have that much time to conduct the business of the Senate?, Fadnavis asked question.
He further said that this new amendment which the MVA government has passed during the winter session taking the powers of Vice-Chancellors is nothing but to make them ‘Babu’. Now Vice-Chancellors won’t have any right, they will now have to act according to Ministers.
“When we had made this act that time selection committee was headed by Judge and other members whom government, Governor and University used to select. This 4 member Selection Panel used to recommend 5 names for the post of Vice-Chancellor and out of those 5 names, Governor used to select one candidate as Vice-Chancellor of the university,” said the former Chief Minister.
So there was never an allegation of any bias, he added and said that but now in the new process, the government will be selecting 2 members over the selection panel and within 30 days time Governor has to finalise the candidate or else the government will select it. They want to make Governor ‘Puppet’ of their hand.
Fadnavis said that in most of the Universities, we are using an online examination format. “There is an entire system in place for it but now these ministers are deciding whom to give the contract to conduct these online exams. Then some other companies will get the contract to conduct the exams online and all universities will become the epic centre of Degree distribution Scam,” alleged Fadnavis.
When I was in Nagpur University one such scam has happened, registrar Kochale of Nagpur University was distributing the marks as per the desire of students and students used to get the degree without attending exams. Now, this Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA) government has decided to do such things and that is why they have given powers to them, he concluded.
