Mumbai: As Dussehra approaches, Mumbai’s political atmosphere is heating up despite the monsoon rains, with Shiv Sena (UBT) chief Uddhav Thackeray and Shinde Sena chief & Deputy CM Eknath Shinde set to hold major rallies on Thursday. These events take on added significance with the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) elections just a few months away.

Shinde’s rally, originally planned at Azad Maidan, will now be held at the NESCO Centre in Goregaon, while Thackeray sticks to tradition with his gathering at Shivaji Park in Dadar.

In a press conference on Wednesday, Thackeray sharply criticised the Maharashtra government over its handling of recent excess rainfall and crop damage, saying, “The government is enjoying itself while farmers are in deep trouble. Crops that grew in front of their eyes are now worth nothing. Instead of helping, the state is ignoring the crisis. We demanded loan waivers, but the government has ignored it. Are farmers now waiting to join the BJP just to get loan relief? Our state is facing a serious crisis, but all attention seems to be on Bihar due to elections. This is blatant injustice to Maharashtra.”

Meanwhile, Shinde urged workers from flood-hit areas not to attend the Mumbai rally, asking them to focus on relief efforts locally. “The gathering will be dedicated to farmers. Our purpose will be to collect relief funds for farmers and victims,” he said, restricting attendance to party workers from Mumbai, Thane, and nearby suburbs.
