Mumbai: “MSMEs (Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises) and start-up units in the education sector will play a critical role in making our education system inclusive and bringing it on par with advanced countries such as USA and UK”, said Union Minister for MSMEs Narayan Rane at the inauguration of International Education Expo 2022 organised by MSME – DFO Mumbai and jointly supported by women entrepreneurs forum Zhep Udyogininchi, All India Association of Industries (AIAI), WTC Mumbai and other stakeholders.
Speaking at the function on Monday, the Union Minister for MSMEs said “24% of Indians are illiterate, while in Maharashtra 18% of the population is illiterate. Government relies on MSMEs and start-up firms for effective delivery of education schemes to common man in the hinterland. I am happy to learn that Zhep Udyogininchi and other partners of this Expo are promoting micro enterprises and women entrepreneurs in education and skill development sector,”
Sharing his views on the International Education Expo 2022, Narayan Rane remarked, “A unique feature of this Expo is that it highlights the role of MSMEs in service sector, especially in education, vocational training and skill development, which are critical for the Atmanirbhar Bharat vision of our Hon’ble Prime Minister.”
Speaking on this occasion, Dr. Vijay Kalantri, President – All India Association of Industries (AIAI) and Chairman – MVIRDC WTC Mumbai pointed out, “MSMEs are the backbone of Indian economy as they manufacture more than 5,000 products, contribute 45% directly and 65% indirectly to exports and generate at least 120 million jobs. This is a vibrant sector in India, although the growth of MSMEs has declined from 18-20% earlier to less than 13% now. Government and financial institutions can support MSMEs in addressing challenges such as lack of access to finance, high cost of raw materials and rising cost of logistics.”
Dr. Kalantri further informed that this International Expo will promote MSMEs and start-up units in the education sector and facilitate exchange of ideas for more innovation, entrepreneurship and employment.
The inaugural session was also addressed by Gokhe, Director, MSME-DFO Mumbai, Praveen Khandelwal, National Secretary General, CAIT, Dr. Suhas Pednekar, former Vice Chancellor, Mumbai University and Megha Phansalkar, Founder, Tisser Artisans Trust.
The International Education Expo 2022 will be open for visitors from September 18 to September 20 at the World Trade Centre, Colaba, Mumbai.
