New Delhi: Civil Aviation Minister K. Rammohan Naidu on Friday announced a series of urgent interventions to tackle the escalating disruption in IndiGo’s flight operations, assuring the public that services are expected to fully normalize within the next three days.
IndiGo, India’s largest airline, has been facing massive operational turbulence for four consecutive days, resulting in hundreds of cancellations, severe delays, and stranded passengers across major airports. The government has now moved swiftly to ease the crisis.
Govt Suspends New Duty Norms to Boost Crew Availability
In a major relief measure, the Ministry of Civil Aviation has placed the new Flight Duty Time Limitations (FDTL) issued by the DGCA into immediate abeyance.
Naidu said the step was taken “without compromising on safety” but with a focus on easing operational pressure at a time when passengers—including senior citizens, students, and medical travellers—are facing significant inconvenience.
Full Service Restoration in 72 Hours
The minister said that with these directives implemented instantly, flight schedules will begin stabilizing by Saturday, with complete restoration targeted within three days.
High-Level Inquiry Ordered
Naidu also announced that the government will set up a high-level inquiry to investigate the root causes of the disruption and fix accountability, noting that such large-scale breakdowns cannot be allowed to repeat.
The ministry is closely monitoring airline operations and has deployed teams to ensure compliance with the new relaxation measures.
