New Delhi / Paris: Prime Minister Narendra Modi and French President Emmanuel Macron reaffirmed their commitment to deepening bilateral relations and global cooperation during Modi’s two-day visit to France. The leaders acknowledged significant progress in defence, nuclear energy, space, and technology partnerships and pledged to enhance trade and investment ties.
Discussions covered critical global issues, including the Indo-Pacific strategy and the Russia-Ukraine war. The leaders emphasized their shared vision for a peaceful and secure Indo-Pacific and stressed the importance of a reformed and effective United Nations Security Council (UNSC). France reiterated its firm support for India’s permanent membership in the UNSC, while both countries agreed to work closely on veto regulations in cases of mass atrocities.
Modi and Macron jointly inaugurated India’s Consulate General in Marseille, further cementing diplomatic ties. They also visited the International Thermonuclear Experimental Reactor facility, showcasing their collaboration in scientific advancements. Modi invited the French Army to explore India’s Pinaka Multi-Barrel Rocket Launcher System, calling its potential acquisition another milestone in Indo-French defence relations. Macron, in turn, welcomed India as an observer in the Eurodrone MALE programme, further strengthening defence collaboration.
The leaders also addressed counter-terrorism efforts, calling for a crackdown on terrorism financing networks and safe havens. They reaffirmed their commitment to international initiatives such as the Financial Action Task Force (FATF) and No Money For Terror (NMFT) to combat terror financing.
The visit underscored the robust Indo-French strategic partnership, with both leaders agreeing to intensify cooperation across multiple sectors.
