“Modi Govt Inflicted Deep Blow to Democracy, Economy & Social Harmony”: Kharge Launches Scathing Attack Amid BJP’s 11-Year Celebrations

New Delhi: As the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) celebrates 11 years at the Centre, Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge launched a powerful counter-narrative, accusing the Narendra Modi-led government of causing “irreparable damage” to India’s democracy, economy, and social fabric.

In a sharply worded post on X (formerly Twitter), Kharge alleged that the BJP and its ideological parent Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) had eroded the autonomy of constitutional institutions and weakened the federal structure. “In the last 11 years, the Modi government has caused a deep blow to Indian democracy, economy and social fabric. The BJP-RSS has weakened every Constitutional institution and attacked their autonomy,” Kharge wrote.

He went on to accuse the ruling party of “toppling elected governments through the backdoor” and fostering an “atmosphere of hate, fear and insecurity” across communities. Citing the prolonged unrest in Manipur, Kharge said the social fabric was under consistent attack.

At the same time, the Modi government showcased its decade-long journey as a period of transformative governance. In a message shared on the BJP’s official platform, Prime Minister Narendra Modi said, “From economic growth to social upliftment, the focus has been on people-centric, inclusive and all-round progress. India today is not just the fastest-growing major economy, but also a key global voice on pressing issues like climate action and digital innovation.”

Union Home Minister Amit Shah echoed the prime minister’s message and called the last 11 years a “golden period of public service.” He added that “Modi 3.0” will be about making India the number one country across all sectors.

However, Kharge countered those claims with harsh criticism of the Modi government’s economic record. “The BJP-RSS has made the GDP growth rate habitual of 5-6%, which used to be 8% during the UPA era. Promises of 2 crore jobs a year have vanished, and crores have actually lost employment,” Kharge claimed.

He also listed government initiatives like ‘Make in India,’ ‘Startup India,’ ‘Digital India,’ and ‘Namami Gange’ as “glorified failures,” alleging that the ruling party merely cut ribbons on infrastructure developed under the UPA.

“Railways have been ruined. Savings are at a 50-year low. Inequality is at a 100-year high,” Kharge declared, concluding his post with a warning: “This journey of constitutional subversion must end, and the fight to protect India’s soul must continue.”
