‘Don’t Teach Us Patriotism’: MK Stalin Blasts Governor, Defends Tamil Traditions and Dravidian Model in Assembly

Chennai: Tamil Nadu Chief Minister MK Stalin delivered a strong and emotional statement in the State Assembly, openly criticising the Governor and firmly defending both Tamil traditions and the performance of his government. His remarks created a buzz inside and outside the Assembly, highlighting rising tensions between the elected government and the Governor.

Speaking during the session, Stalin accused the Governor of repeatedly acting against the state government and disrupting Assembly proceedings. He expressed deep personal pain over what he described as unnecessary confrontations. Using clear and direct words, the Chief Minister said, “However, the Governor is acting against the government. He repeatedly cites the same reason and walks out of the Assembly. I am someone who has deep respect for the nation and the National Anthem. No one needs to lecture us on patriotism. The actions of the Governor cause me distress. In the Legislative Assembly, it is the tradition to sing the Tamil Thai Vazhthu at the beginning and the National Anthem at the end.”

Stalin stressed that Tamil Nadu’s traditions have always respected both state identity and national values. He made it clear that following long-standing Assembly customs does not mean disrespect to the nation, and rejected any suggestion that the state government lacks patriotism.

The Chief Minister then shifted focus to the achievements of his administration, strongly praising what he called the “Dravidian Model” of governance. He said Tamil Nadu’s progress speaks for itself and has placed the state ahead of others in development and welfare.

Highlighting this, Stalin stated, “Because of the achievements of the Dravidian Model government, Tamil Nadu has held its head high. Tamil Nadu has developed more than other states. The reason for this is our schemes…As far as this government is concerned, once an achievement is made, an even greater one follows. Creating achievement upon achievement is the hallmark of the Dravidian Model government.”
