Mithun Chakraborty to Be Honored with Dadasaheb Phalke Award for Outstanding Contribution to Indian Cinema

Legendary actor Mithun Chakraborty is set to receive the prestigious Dadasaheb Phalke Award, recognizing his remarkable contributions to Indian cinema. Union Minister for Railways, Information and Broadcasting, Electronics and IT, Ashwini Vaishnav, made the announcement on his social media platform X (formerly Twitter) on Monday, revealing that the award will be presented during the 70th National Film Awards ceremony on October 8, 2024.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi also took to X to extend his congratulations, stating, “Delighted that Shri Mithun Chakraborty Ji has been conferred the prestigious Dadasaheb Phalke Award, recognizing his unparalleled contributions to Indian cinema. He is a cultural icon, admired across generations for his versatile performances. Congratulations and best wishes to him.”

In response to the announcement, Mithun expressed his overwhelming emotions, saying, “I don’t have words. Neither I can laugh nor cry. This is such a big thing… I could not have imagined this. I am extremely happy. I dedicate this to my family and my fans across the world.”

Mithun Chakraborty, affectionately known as Mithun Da, has had a multifaceted career as an actor, writer, singer, TV host, producer, social worker, entrepreneur, and politician. He rose to fame with his iconic role in the 1982 film Disco Dancer, captivating audiences with his dance moves and acting prowess. Some of his notable films include Agneepath, Jallaad, The Kashmir Files, OMG – Oh My God!, Golmaal 3, and Guru.

Earlier this year, Chakraborty was also honored with the Padma Bhushan, India’s third-highest civilian award. He holds a unique record in the Limca Book of Records for having 19 film releases as a lead actor in a single year, a feat that remains unmatched in Hindi cinema.
