Mira Road Knife Attack Sparks Terror Probe: Fadnavis Says Suspect Was ‘Self-Radicalised’ And Targeted Hindus

Maharashtra CM Links Mira Road Stabbing To Suspected Radicalisation

Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis has described the Mira Road stabbing attack as a suspected case of “self-radicalisation,” saying preliminary findings suggest that the accused may have targeted Hindu security guards in the name of jihad.

The shocking attack, which left two security guards seriously injured, has triggered a high-level investigation involving the Maharashtra Anti-Terrorism Squad (ATS) and the National Investigation Agency (NIA).

The statement from the Chief Minister has added a serious terror angle to the incident, making it one of the most sensitive law-and-order cases in the state in recent months.

Fadnavis Says Probe Will Track Radicalisation Links

Speaking on the incident, Fadnavis said the accused, Zaib Zubair Ansari, had recently returned to India after living in the United States, and evidence recovered so far points towards ideological radicalisation.

He said investigators found books and other suspicious material at the accused’s residence, and the probe will not stop with the arrest alone.

According to the Chief Minister, agencies are now trying to identify whether any individuals, online channels, or extremist networks influenced the accused, suggesting that the investigation may expand beyond Maharashtra.

Attack Happened Near Residential Complex In Early Morning Hours

The violent incident occurred at around 4 am on Monday near Asmita Grand Mansion in Mira Road East, behind Wockhardt Hospital, when two security guards were on duty at the residential premises.

Police said the accused first approached the guards asking for the location of a nearby mosque, then left briefly before returning and allegedly launching the attack.

The sudden and targeted nature of the violence has raised alarm among local residents and security agencies.

Victims Allegedly Targeted After Religious Questioning

According to the initial police investigation, Ansari allegedly asked one of the guards about his religion before stabbing him.

He then reportedly entered the security cabin and asked the second guard to recite the Kalma, an Islamic declaration of faith.

When the second guard failed to do so, the accused allegedly attacked him as well.

Investigators believe this sequence suggests the assault may have been religiously motivated, a factor now central to the ATS and NIA probe.

Both Security Guards Hospitalised In Serious Condition

The two injured guards, identified as Rajkumar Mishra and Subrato Ramesh Sen, were immediately rushed for treatment after the attack.

Officials said Mishra was admitted to Wockhardt Hospital in Mira Road, while Sen was also given urgent medical care.

Authorities have confirmed that both victims remain in serious but stable condition, while police continue gathering evidence and questioning the accused.

Terror Angle Under Investigation As Agencies Intensify Probe

With the ATS and NIA jointly examining the case, officials are now probing whether the accused acted alone or was inspired by extremist propaganda.

The recovery of allegedly incriminating materials from his residence has deepened concerns that the case may involve online radicalisation or ideological indoctrination.

Investigators are also examining the accused’s travel history, communication records, and digital footprint to determine whether there were links to organised extremist elements.

Mira Road Attack Raises Fresh Security Concerns

The incident has sparked fresh debate over self-radicalisation and lone-wolf attacks, especially involving individuals who may have been exposed to extremist content abroad or online.

With the Maharashtra government calling for a wider probe, the case is likely to intensify concerns over urban security and ideological extremism.
