Brother of a very close associate of former MLA Narendra Mehta has been arrested for ‘smuggling gutka’. Sanjay Tharthare is very close to Narendra Mehta, However, Sanjay’s brother Sandesh Tharthare has been arrested by Vasai police for smuggling gutka. With Sandesh another person Sameer Mehta has also been arrested and both of them are said to be close aides of former MLA.
In total police have arrested four people in smuggling, and the names of the accused are Sandesh Vasant Tharthare, Sameer Mehta, Sainath Kishor Vajpayee and Nityanand Ram Chaurasia. As per reports, police have confiscated 20 vehicles at Vasai’s Waliv as they were travelling from Vapi to Bhayander.
Earlier, a case was registered against Narendra Mehta for raping a woman corporator. In the FIR Sanjay Tharthare’s name also figured. Tharthare was also booked for allegedly threatening the woman against going to police in 2015. He had allegedly threatened the woman that Mehta is close to former Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis and advised her to settle in Dubai with her child instead.
