Mumbai: NCP (SP) leader Eknath Khadse has revealed that plans to reunite the two factions of the Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) were already at an advanced stage before the sudden death of Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar. Khadse’s remarks shed light on the party’s internal discussions and the potential impact of the merger on upcoming local elections.

Speaking to the media, Khadse said, “Talks of a merger had been going on for several days. Over the past three to four months, discussions had taken place with Ajit Dada and other leaders, and it was almost decided that the merger would happen.”

He added that the Sharad Pawar faction had already proposed contesting the local body elections under the ‘clock’ party symbol, indicating a coordinated strategy for a formal announcement of the unification. “There was also a plan to formally announce the merger,” Khadse confirmed.
