Manipur CM Biren Singh Apologises to People Amidst Communal Violence

Mumbai: Manipur Chief Minister N Biren Singh, on Tuesday, December 31, offered a heartfelt apology to the people of the state for the ongoing violence and unrest that has plagued Manipur for over a year. Speaking to ANI, Singh expressed deep regret over the tragic events that have unfolded since the communal violence erupted on May 3, 2023.

“This entire year has been very unfortunate. I feel regret and I want to say sorry to the people of the state for what is happening till today. Many people lost their loved ones, many people left their homes. I really feel regret,” Singh said, reflecting on the pain and suffering caused by the conflict.

The violence, which started in May 2023, has continued well into 2024, leaving communities divided and the state in turmoil. Singh expressed his hope that the New Year would usher in peace and normalcy. “I hope that with the New Year 2025, normalcy and peace will be restored in the state,” he said.

Singh made a direct appeal to all communities in the state to move forward, emphasizing the importance of healing and rebuilding. “Whatever happened has happened. We now have to forget past mistakes and start a new life,” he urged, adding, “A peaceful Manipur, a prosperous Manipur, we should all live together.”
