UP: In a shocking incident in Uttar Pradesh’s Badaun, a young man set himself on fire outside the SSP office on Wednesday afternoon, allegedly due to ongoing disputes with his in-laws. The horrifying act was caught on camera, and the video has since gone viral on social media, showing police officials frantically attempting to extinguish the flames.

The man, identified as Gulfam, a resident of Nai Sarai, sustained critical burn injuries and was rushed to the district hospital. Due to the severity of his condition, he was later referred to a hospital in Bareilly for further treatment.

According to reports, Gulfam had been involved in a prolonged conflict with his wife, who has been staying at her maternal home due to marital disagreements. On December 30, his brother-in-law’s wife filed a molestation case against him, escalating the tension. Gulfam alleged harassment by local authorities, including the Station House Officer (SHO), the City Circle Officer (CO), and a local MLA. He also claimed that his in-laws and others had taken him hostage, seizing his mobile phone, cash, and E-rickshaw after a dispute.

SSP Dr. Brijesh Kumar Singh stated that Gulfam had a history of disputes with his in-laws, with several cases registered against him at Kotwali, Civil Lines, and Mujaria Police Stations. The SSP added that Gulfam allegedly broke into his in-laws’ home on December 30, leading to the molestation complaint.

Eyewitnesses recounted that Gulfam arrived at the SSP office, doused himself in a flammable liquid, and set himself ablaze. The incident caused panic, with police officials and bystanders rushing to his aid to douse the fire. The investigation into the matter is ongoing.
