In a shocking incident, a 26-year-old man was brutally murdered on Saturday after he allegedly stared at two women smoking at a cigarette shop in Nagpur’s Manewada Cement Road area. The Nagpur police have arrested the two women, identified as Jayshree Pandhare and Savita Sayare, along with one of the assailants, Akash Raut. They are on the lookout for another accused, Jeetu Jadhav, according to reports from Indian Express.

According to police sources cited by Indian Express, the victim, Ranjeet Rathod, visited the shop on Saturday night to purchase cigarettes. Pandhare and Sayare were already present at the shop, smoking. Rathod allegedly stared at the two women, which offended and enraged them. One of the women is said to have blown smoke in Rathod’s face.

The confrontation escalated when Rathod started recording a video of the incident. This prompted the irate women to call their friends Raut and Jadhav, asking them to reach the spot and “teach Rathod a lesson.”

By the time Raut and Jadhav arrived, Rathod had already left the area. However, the group managed to intercept him at Mahalaxmi Nagar, where a violent altercation ensued. During the scuffle, Raut allegedly stabbed Rathod in the stomach, leading to his death.

“On the complaint of Rathod’s relative Shankar Mohan Ray, we have arrested the two women and Raut under sections 302 (murder) and 34 (common intention) of the Indian Penal Code. We are looking for the fourth accused, Jadhav,” Kailash Deshmane, Senior Inspector at Hudkeshwar police station, told Indian Express.

The gruesome murder has sent shockwaves through the city, with many questioning the excessive use of violence over a seemingly trivial incident. The police investigation is ongoing to ascertain the exact sequence of events and motives behind the brutal crime.
