Kolkata: West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee is set to return to the streets with another protest march, this time in the Matua-dominated Thakurnagar area of Bongaon on November 25. The Trinamool Congress (TMC) leadership confirmed that Banerjee will walk a significant stretch before addressing a public meeting at the endpoint of the rally.

Party insiders said the objective of the march is to address growing concerns within the Matua community over the Election Commission’s ongoing SIR (Status of Identification Records) verification process. “The rally is aimed at responding to the anxiety among Matua voters regarding the implications of the Election Commission’s SIR verification exercise,” TMC sources said.

Earlier this week, Mamata Banerjee had also written to the Election Commission of India, urging it to immediately halt the SIR process, which she claims has triggered fear and confusion among residents.
