Mumbai: In a major push to accelerate Mumbai’s expanding metro network, the Maharashtra government has released an interest-free loan of ₹500 crore to the Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA). The funds will support nine ongoing metro corridors stretching across Mumbai, Thane, Mira Road, Dahisar, and Kalyan.
According to officials, the Urban Development Department cleared the loan to help MMRDA meet crucial expenses, including 50% of the central tax burden, 100% of local taxes, and land acquisition costs for these large-scale infrastructure projects.
As part of the allocation, the department also approved ₹52.38 crore as a subordinate loan for the Mumbai Metro Line 5 (Thane–Bhiwandi–Kalyan) corridor — a key project expected to ease congestion between the rapidly developing industrial belts of Thane and Kalyan.
Project-wise Fund Allocation
The government has released subordinate loans across several metro lines as follows:
- Metro Line 6 (Swami Samarth Nagar–Jogeshwari–Vikhroli): ₹32.95 crore
- Metro Line 2A (Dahisar East–DN Nagar): ₹28.89 crore
- Metro Line 2B (DN Nagar–Mankhurd): ₹112.80 crore
- Metro Line 4 & 4A (Wadala–Ghatkopar–Mulund–Kasarvadavali & Kasarvadavali–Gaimukh): ₹98.72 crore
- Metro Line 7 (Andheri East–Dahisar East): ₹49.63 crore
- Metro Line 9 & 7A (Dahisar–Mira Road & Andheri–CSMIA): ₹66.71 crore
- Gaimukh–Shivaji Chowk (Mira Road) Extension: ₹86.14 crore
- Metro Line 12 (Kalyan–Taloja): ₹1.08 crore
