In a big move, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) is thinking about teaming up with the Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) for the upcoming Lok Sabha elections. This decision comes as the BJP aims to win more seats in the elections.
A top BJP leader told the Times Of India that they might offer a Rajya Sabha seat to an MNS member if needed. Bala Nandgaonkar, who beat a big leader named Chhagan Bhujbal, is the BJP’s top choice.
There’s talk that the NDA might put up Bala Nandgaonkar against Shiv Sena’s Arvind Sawant in South Mumbai. This could be an interesting contest since both leaders are popular among Marathi people in South Mumbai.
There’s also talk of appointing Raj Thackeray’s son, Amit Thackeray, to the legislative council.
Political Moves Amidst Vacancies & Alliances
These moves come as there might be a vacant spot in the Rajya Sabha because Union Minister Piyush Goyal is contesting in the Mumbai North Lok Sabha constituency. The recent meeting between Raj Thackeray and Union Home Minister Amit Shah, arranged by Deputy Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, adds another layer to Maharashtra’s politics.
Looking for Support & Alliances
The BJP sees teaming up with the MNS as a good move to win more seats in the elections. While they acknowledge Eknath Shinde’s influence, they’re not sure how strong his support really is compared to Uddhav Thackeray’s faction.
Raj Thackeray’s Followers
Even though Raj Thackeray’s MNS hasn’t won many recent elections, they still have a lot of supporters. This makes them a good choice for the BJP as an ally.
In the changing world of Maharashtra politics, making alliances is key. The BJP’s thinking of working with the MNS shows they’re being practical about winning elections.
